July KAL

Hey,

I had a great idea today inspired by two friends at work, how about a KAL?! No pressure, just good ol' fashion knitting fun! Some friends and I are going to be knitting the same tank top from the Fall 2010 issue of Vogue, the Drop St. Pleated Tank (pattern starts on page 91.

How Young are You Today?

Yesterday was the day to fit in all my annual doctors appointments that I could possibly fit in one day. I do not like going to the doctor, as many people I would assume. All my doctors are quite nice. But they are always wanting to stick, poke or shine something really bright at you and it is not fun.

So at all but one of my appointments yesterday when the docotor came in, their first question was how young are you today? I realize, that they need to know your age to help treat, diagnose or torture you, I imagine, that persons of a certain are expected to have a higher level of pain tolerance than others. But, I find the question a little annoying. Perhaps they do not want to appear rude by directly asking a lady her age, depending on their up bringing I can almost understand that. But I felt like saying well today, I feel 20 years young, doc. See, I've decided that I'm kicking this aging thingn in the teeth and I am going only as old as I feel. Today I am off from work, it is sunny out, it's summertime. I think I am 20 years young today!

What do you suppose he'd say? If couldn't argue with you, if he was trying to be polite, and he might actually be forced to read my chart, where my date of birth has been clearly filled in on the form every year when I go in there. Being that he is a doctor and has been to numerous years of college, I would hope he could look at the chart do a little simple math and figure it out for himself. But maybe not.

So today, it will be warm and sunny, I do have to return to work, (insert annoyed look here) but I will not have people asking me how young I am today or trying to poke with me pointy objects so I think today I will be 25.

How young will you be today?

Road Trip

Yesterday was a long over due road trip day to Charlottesville, Va. We had a wonderful time, despite a slow start with the traffic. It turned out to be a book day. I can't believe it but there was no fiber involved at all. I'm not even sure how that happened!

But, as always are first stop when we hit the downtown mall, is Daedalus, owned by Sandy and Donna McAdams. Frankly, if you can't find it at Daedalus it hasn't been published, that place is stocked top to bottom, literally! We always enjoy an hour or two there and usually have a bag/box or two to show for it. Yesterday, we just had one bag. But it was filled with book"y" goodness.

Then it was off down main street to Blue Whale Books , which has the cutest assistant shop keeper/greeter! A pretty little Pembroke Corgie. I can always find something at Blue Whale, and have often found some very nice first or second edition childrens classics.

Last but not least is Read It Again, Sam's . The store is just lovely, I mean that the hardwoods are beautiful, despite the amount of foot traffic. The shopkeepers are charming and always a very nice selection especially if your into the pulp classics and detective fiction. They also have some very nice first editions.

So once we had ensured we left no book standing downtown, we headed for Richmond, browsed around Borders a bit, and then headed over to Total Wine for some supplies.

Stopped for dinner in Williamsburg and then finally home. It was a long day, but lots of fun. The weather in Charlottesville was great, sunny and warm, but a really nice breeze to make it comfortable.

Mojo

Well Dear Reader,
I have been a bit lacking the the blogging and knitting departments lately. I think I had myself spread a bit too thin and I am going to have to cut back on some things to get back to the things I enjoy the most. My knitting mojo went on a month long vacation, I only hope it went somewhere relaxing and is now back feeling refreshed and ready to get busy again. What few items I have managed to get off the needles have been without much enthusiam. So I'm looking for to the return of energized needles.
I spent the morning updating my stash inventory on Ravelry, it was long over due.

Also from the files of new and exciting, I just downloaded the Vogue Knitting app on my Ipod Touch, it is also available for your Iphone, I highly recommend it. It is a handy way to carry around your yarn, needle and book stash, so when your at the LYS you'll know exactly what yarn, book or needle you need. It also have a stitch dictionary, a how to and a conversion feature for yarn substitutes, to me that is worth the $3.99 just for that on my Ipod!

And who has seen the Karate Kid 2010 yet? I am not normally one for remakes, but I wasn't a huge fan of the first one, and I think this one will be better! I am a sucker for underdog stories anyway and Jaden Smith is adorable, and I'm a huge Jackie Chan fan, already. I have seen it yet, so no spoilers please!

I'm also waiting with baited breath for Eclipse! I have my tickets in hand and can't wait! Team Edward!

I planted some Pink Lace Bee Balm in the garden today, because my squash were having pollination problems. So hopefully a few more bees will help them out. All the insecticides and chemicals in our environment are destroying the bees! So I have planted the bee balm, and hung up a humming bird feeder, which hopefully will attract bees as much as the humming birds. Also, I have some Virginia Creeper or Trumpet vine and Star Jasmine so I hope they have plenty of good smelling flowers to bring them over to the garden. I hope they are also understanding when I go out to the garden to pick the veggies and do not sting me! LOL!

Well, I've enjoyed our time catching up today, I have some dish clothes to knit, a baby soaker to finish and some swatches to catch up on. I hope your weekend has been a good one and you have had some fiber related fun!

Green

The garden is greening up nicely. Still hasn't been hot enough for the tomatoes, but they are starting to get taller and a few blooms. The squash, cucumber, eggplant, potatoes and beans are coming along nicely though.

The flowers are doing well near the patio, too.
